A few weeks ago I was detecting in Castlemaine area and came across this rock which sent my detector screaming. I tried to smash it at the time with my pick but couldn’t, so I brought it home to have a better go at it. Could not even get a chip off it, let alone smash it. It is strongly magnetic, and for its size is much heavier than an equivalent sized garden rock. It weighs about 600g whereas a garden rock of similar size is only about 250g.
I am interested to hear peoples thoughts and suggestions as to how I could find out for certain.
